MST needed to expand storage and maintenance closer to its most popular routes to reduce equipment wear and tear and decrease fuel usage transporting buses between Salinas and Monterey.

MST utilized the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract to obtain the design-build turnkey construction solution from BlueScope Construction.

The existing facility received major upgrades in the driver operations and training areas plus a new façade. New construction added maintenance operations including bus repair bays, steam cleaning bay, parts building, bus wash area and fuel island. The site itself underwent major renovations to increase bus parking plus water saving landscaping and a new irrigation system to bring stormwater controls into compliance with current regulations.

The new facility is capable of maintaining up to 90 buses. MST expects the facility to save the agency approximately $250,000 in annual fuel and labor costs.
